The Hazards Of Paper Cups

The quality of disposable paper cups on the market varies greatly, with significant hidden dangers. Some paper cup manufacturers add fluorescent whitening agents to make the cups look whiter. This fluorescent substance can cause cell mutations and become a potential carcinogenic factor once it enters the human body. In order to achieve a waterproof effect on paper cups, a layer of polyethylene waterproof film is applied to the inner wall during production. Polyethylene is the safest chemical substance in food processing, but if the material used is not good or the processing technology is not up to standard, it may oxidize into carbonyl compounds during the process of melting or applying polyethylene to paper cups. Carbonyl compounds are not easy to evaporate at room temperature, but may evaporate when pouring hot water into paper cups, so people may smell strange odors.
Although there is no research to confirm the harm that carbonyl compounds released from paper cups can cause to the human body, theoretically speaking, long-term intake of these organic compounds is definitely harmful to the human body. What is even more worrying is that some inferior paper cups use recycled polyethylene, which will undergo cracking changes during the reprocessing process, producing many harmful compounds that are more likely to migrate into water during use. The country has explicitly prohibited the use of recycled polyethylene for food packaging, but due to its low price, some small factories still use it illegally in order to save costs.
